A fun weekend trip, we went down to Weathersfield CT to tour the Webb Deane Stevens museum house for an up close textile tour. Very fun and worthwhile. Below are the kitchen with a clock jack to turn the roasting meat, and the buttery shelves.
We were able to see textiles not normally on display, like this 18th C dress of Spitalfields brocaded silk with sac back. I wish you could see the matching silk shoes. And of course our charming host. She wore gloves and was able to lift and turn and display everything for our edification.
And here is my most very favorite thing, this practically perfect crewel embroidered man's wallet. Perfect! Now of course I wonder why I did not take more pictures. I'll just have to go back!
